Macau | Local gaming workers association asks gov’t to urge gaming operators to increase salaries

Macau (MNA) – Local group Power of the Macao Gaming Association submitted a petition on Wednesday asking the Macau SAR Government to urge local gaming operators to increase workers’ salaries.

The group suggested a raise of 5 to 8 per cent.

The Director of the association, Lei Iok Po, said the six gaming operators, being the major industry in the city’s economy, should take the lead to raise workers’ salaries, which small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) would then follow.

“The city’s gaming revenue has improved and in fact it has heated back up,” Lei pointed out. “Therefore, it is necessary to take this action [to raise workers’ salaries].”

Meanwhile, Mr. Lei revealed that some gaming operators had claimed that they had raised the salaries of all workers while frontline workers, in fact, had received no raise at all.

Given that it is the fourth year for the group to submit such petition, Mr. Lei said gaming operators had raised salaries by 2 to 2.5 per cent in the past four years, noting, however, that not all gaming operators had made adjustments.
