Macau | Suncity seeking legal opinion on Amax case over Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel – company

Macau (MNA) – Suncity Group Holdings Limited told Macau News Agency (MNA) that it is currently seeking legal advice on the matter involving the company and gaming investor Amax International Holdings regarding the reported takeover of the Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel in Macau.

‘Suncity Group is seeking legal opinion on the matter while the Group’s investigation is in progress, so no further comment can be made at this stage,’ the company told MNA in regard to the clarification announcement Amax issued on May 23.

In a filing with the Hong Kong bourse on Wednesday, Amax claimed Suncity is not in control of the hotel – formerly known as New Century Hotel – and that it had obtained a court order instructing a subsidiary of the junket operator, Victory Success Holdings Limited, to vacate the hotel premises.

The group, headed by Alvin Chau Cheok Wa, had not confirmed to MNA if Victory Success had vacated the hotel facilities by the court order deadline of May 22.

Contacted by MNA, Amax and Beijing Imperial have not issued a comment as at the time this story was published.

Amax holds 24.8 per cent of Greek Mythology (Macau) Entertainment Group Corp. Ltd., which operated a casino venue with the same name inside the hotel, shut down by the Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau (DICJ) in 2015.

In early 2017, the former licence.e holder of the hotel located on Taipa island, Macau Hotel Developers Ltd., announced that it had returned its property licence to the authorities, due to the expiration of the hotel’s temporary closure on January 22 that same year, as well as its inability to complete renovation works by the deadline.
