Vong Hin Fai to seek NPC election

Legislator Vong Hin Fai has submitted his bid to become one of the 12 SAR deputies to the National People’s Congress (NPC) in the local elections scheduled for December 12, TDM Radio Macau reported.

Also next month, Vong is set to take over as the new president of the Macau Lawyers Association (AAM), as he is the sole contender to succeed outgoing AAM head Jorge Neto Valente.

Also running for the first time in the NPC elections is Vong’s fellow SAR lawmaker, Ma Chi Seng who also submitted his candidacy on Monday, the deadline to join the race. Also in their maiden bid are the former legislator director of the Macau Chinese Educators Association Chan Hong,  Cheng Son Meng vice president of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations, Lao Ka U, linked to the Macau Jiangmen Communal Society and Macao Daily News director general Wan Nang Hon.

Nine incumbent NPC deputies, including Si Kan Lon, Ng Sio Lai, Dominic Sio, Kou Hoi In, Lao Ngai Leong, Ho Sut Heng, Iong Weng Ian, José Chui Sai Peng and Kevin Ho are seeking re-election.

Veteran deputies Macao Daily News director Lok Po, lawyer Paula Ling and Lai Sai Kei, director of Keang Peng School, will not be seeking a new term.

A 400 plus-strong electoral committee comprising various community representatives will elect Macau’s 12 NPC deputies on December 12.
