Macau | Chief Executive assures no disturbance by greyhounds to seniors home

Macau (MNA) – Chief Executive (CE) Fernando Chui Sai On has assured residents of seniors home Asilo Vila Madalena that the Macau SAR Government will oversee and ensure that the facilities which currently host over 500 greyhounds next door will not create any disturbance.

Accompanied by the Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan and the President of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM), José Tavares da Silva, on a visit to the seniors care home on Tuesday the CE acknowledged the biggest concerns of the elderly regarding noise and hygiene.

Chui asserted that the IACM as well as other public departments will penalise the owner of the greyhounds – Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd. – if it violates any regulation.

The Secretary and IACM head explained to the nuns of Vila Madalena that the plot of land that will accommodate the greyhounds is private land, saying that the owner of the greyhounds has the responsibility to look after the dogs.

IACM claimed it will urge Yat Yuen to communicate more with the house as well as relatives of the seniors.

Yat Yuen previously proposed its greyhounds be relocated to a private plot at Pac On but the plan was later dropped owing to issues related to altering the plot’s usage. The company later chose a plot in Coloane next to Asilo Vila Madalena, saying it was the best option for resettling the greyhounds.

IACM has approved the company’s request to postpone the deadline to move the dogs by seven more days to October 6. The request was made due to the slight delay of installing related facilities on the plot in Coloane caused by Typhoon Mangkhut.
