Macau | Legislator Lam Lon Wai questions if security cameras can include Smart City functions

Macau (MNA) – Legislator Lam Lon Wai sent a written enquiry questioning if the installation of ‘Eye in the Sky’ (天眼) security cameras can be integrated with plans to include smart street lamps, especially in the New Urban Area of Macau.

‘The installation of ‘Eye in the Sky’ (天眼) security cameras as well as smart city street lamp posts in places with narrow roads would mean that there will be traffic obstruction,’ argued the legislator.

‘The way these cameras are being planned is not smart,’ added Mr. Lam.

Smart street lamps which will be used to monitor traffic, according to Frederick Ma Chi Ngai, the president of theScience and Technology Development Fund (FDCT).

Lam asked if the existing cameras can be used to integrate with existing lamp posts in order to carry out the same level of monitoring.

820 of ‘Eye in the Sky’ (天眼) cameras have already been installed around Macau, with plans to install at least 1,620 by 2020.

Some 100 of these cameras will be equipped with license plate tracking and facial recognition, according to Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak.
